Scale2Connect
In today’s landscape—defined by digital information and pervasive communication technologies—research projects must develop robust strategies to achieve visibility, recognition, and real societal impact. Science and innovation, while essential for progress, can lose relevance if findings are not communicated clearly, effectively, and accessibly to diverse audiences.
A comprehensive digital communication strategy is therefore pivotal in academic and scientific project management. It not only supports the dissemination of results but also strengthens positioning at local and international levels. Designing and implementing such a strategy helps align outreach processes, consolidate project identity, and ensure that contributions effectively reach researchers, institutions, students, and society at large.
Digital communication should not be seen as an add-on to research but as a core driver of impact. The strategy proposed for Scale2Connect connects science with society so that knowledge goes beyond academic publications and becomes living, shareable resources applicable to collective development.
This report presents the proposal to develop the communication strategy, design and manage the website, and create and operate the project’s social media pages for Scale2Connect—ensuring visibility, accessibility, and dissemination of advances, results, and contributions at academic, institutional, and societal levels.
Objectives
General objective
Design and implement a comprehensive digital communication strategy to strengthen the dissemination and positioning of the Scale2Connect project.
Specific objectives
- Create an institutional project website with an attractive, functional design that serves as an information repository.
- Establish and manage key social media profiles to reach different audiences.
- Generate clear, scientific, and accessible content for the academic community and the general public.
- Ensure visual and narrative coherence across all project communications.
Target Audiences
Internal
Researchers, collaborators, associated institutions.
External
Academic community, funding bodies, students, media, interested civil society.
Key Messages
- The importance of Scale2Connect in advancing scientific knowledge.
- Its impact on innovation and sustainable development.
- Its contributions to communities and to solving current challenges.
Project Description
Scale2Connect is a strategic initiative designed to reduce disparities between well-established innovation hubs and emerging ecosystems by transferring and adapting the successful Skills2Scale model. The project recognizes the challenges faced by many regions: gaps in innovation capacity, limited infrastructure, scarce access to finance, and insufficient opportunities for global networking.
Against this backdrop, Scale2Connect aims to strengthen academia–enterprise collaboration in deep-tech fields such as Artificial Intelligence, beyond 5G, and other advanced technologies, while fostering a more equitable and sustainable integration of higher education institutions into regional innovation ecosystems.
- Transfer and adapt the Skills2Scale model in at least three new partner HEIs, developing ecosystem analyses and tailored implementation plans.
- Strengthen the integration of HEIs into local and regional innovation ecosystems through stakeholder engagement and peer-learning events.
- Improve knowledge and talent flows between academia and industry via an expert lecture series, thematic workshops, and mentoring schemes.
- Develop entrepreneurial and advanced deep-tech skills by training academic staff and involving over 100 students in entrepreneurship activities.
- Foster startup scale-up with a 3-month accelerator, intensive mentoring, an alumni network, and a Demo Day showcasing startups to investors and policymakers.
A distinctive feature of Scale2Connect is the inclusion of the Universidad Abierta para Adultos (UAPA) from the Dominican Republic, extending the model beyond the European Union and testing its adaptability in a non-EU context. This diverse consortium — comprising partners from Greece, Spain, Portugal, Norway, and the Dominican Republic — provides a rich collaborative environment to share best practices and build interconnected innovation networks.
Ultimately, Scale2Connect seeks not only to close gaps but also to create a more balanced and competitive innovation landscape, where emerging ecosystems can evolve into active contributors to Europe’s technological and economic development, and beyond.
